I'm a new XP user and trying to figure out haw far I can go with "user
customization". How can I delete desktop icons (shorcuts) on one of the
accounts (say, for my kids) but still have the icon on my login? Seems like
whenever I delete a shortcut on one desktop it deletes on all users' desktops
as well. I would appreciate any advice!

Set up separate user accounts. What is installed under a user is only seen
by that user.

Each account has a separate desktop, and there is also a shared desktop.
The desktop for each account is found at C:\Documents and
Settings\<user account name>\Desktop. Icons you place there will only
show on the specific user account's desktop. Icons placed in
C:\Dcouments and Settings\All Users\Desktop, will appear on everyone's
desktop.
