I need to create a custom windows 10 boot install, preferably using audit mode, for some old university laptops. We used to use ghost and audit mode, then deploy the image to them, but now that seems to be failing, despite working with windows 10 previously. I could try the other file types but seeing as this worked before it should work now, and the other file types apparently had problems in the past. My boss would prefer to continue using ghost as we use ghostcast for the labs, and we have no budget for any new programs. A last resort for now would be mounting the custom image on a USB but I cannot find a guide that does not use hyper v (no purchasing new programs). We do have windows 10 creators image from last August to use as the basis for the custom install.

Solution

I suggest you create a bootable WinPE USB drive then copy the image to the it.
For me is easier to have it on a server and just deploy to any system that needs re-imaging
