Hi!

I'm planning to build a custom case made of aluminum. The motherboard will be mounted horizontally. I planned to leave a bit of space under the cpu socket to install the water cooler pump, but I've been across lots of debates on the internet... should I screw the MB on some kind of washers/standoffs? Should they be made of rubber or some kind of metal? I've read either that they shouldn't be made of metal cause of shorts, and that they should be made of metal cause of grounding.

So, what should I do? thank you in advance

I've never seen anything but metal standoffs ever. In the old days they were sometimes used to pass ground from one part of the motherbd to another but that is not the case today.

Personally, I would just use the standard metal standoff, no need to fab a new design when super cheap ones are readily available.
