Hi all!
Please forgive if this is in the wrong section as I'm new to this forum!
At the moment I am trying to create a computer for recording gameplay to then edit and upload to YouTube and am building a computer for it. I am using the magazine Custom PC October 2014 as a guideline. On the article that explains how to build a low cost gaming PC, it says to use 2 x 4GB 1,600MHz Corsair XMS3 RAM. I had a look on one of the other pages and found that I could get 2 x 4GB Corsair Vengeance Pro Series 2,400MHz DDR3 RAM for an extra £6. So I thought to myself, there must be a catch, offering far faster RAM for an extra £6?
So, I was looking at CPUs just now and saw in the specs for both Pentium and i3 processors that the maximum memory speed for the Pentium is 1,333MHz and the i3 is 1,600MHz.
So does this mean that if I got the 2,400MHz RAM then the system wouldn't work? Or would it just bottleneck at the CPU's maximum RAM speed? Or, alternatively, am I just misunderstanding the whole thing?
Please ask for confirmation on what I mean should what I say not make any sense.
I will put the links in below to the items I am talking about.
Thanks in advance!
