I have a load of laptop RAM sitting around, and am planning to build a server. Is there somewhere I can get motherboards designed to work with SO RAM? I've found adaptors, but seeing as i'm mostly trying to find a use for a load of old RAM anyway, they aren't cost effective.

No, there are no desktop motherboards designed to be used with SODIMMs. You would have to use adapters and that's a fickle business anyhow. If you can't sell the memory, and it's old RAM, then just give it away or toss it. Old RAM is practically worthless unless you have a buyer that specifically needs that exact memory type and has an old system that can use it. Mostly, if it's more than five year old and I take it out of a system, it goes in the trash.

I've saved boxes of memory in the past until I realized that years had passed and there was no use for it, and nobody wanted it. So, useless.
