Your MB has 4 RAM slots, yes 2 sticks are better than 1 because it speeds up your memory performance by around 40%. Your CPU has 2 channels in the controller, it is designed for 4 sticks as each channel can handle 2 sticks each.

Are you getting 1 stick of memory? If so, you should get 2 sticks of 4GB in a set, that will utilize both memory channels the E3 has and speed memory up about 40% over using just 1 channel.
May want to check the price on Crucial MX100 SSD's, they are at a great price or maybe a Samsung 840 EVO as they are going cheap right now also.

Good, you will want to use the 2nd and 4th slots for them from the CPU. Also having 4 sticks does not help performance over 2 sticks as the channels will use them one at a time anyway. You can have different GB capacities also, just have to place them correctly, in case you want/need a lot of RAM to video edit or multi-task with a lot of apps at once, 8GB is just fine for gaming. If you got 2 8GB sticks down the road use them like this....
8Gb / 4GB / 8GB / 4GB

That would put 12GB on each channel to balance them out. The controller would address all 4 sticks up to 16GB, then use the 2 8GB sticks for the remaining 8GB left on them (4GB each), that way you will always be using both channels. All of the sticks should be the same speed and CL timing. Hope that explains things a bit better.

The slots are arranged like this, from the CPU socket......

channel1-stick1 / channel1-stick2 / channel2-stick1 / channel2-stick2 /

The channel does not care which slot us used, stick 1 & 2 slots are wired in series to it anyway.
