I had the same proble with the black screen after having my hp laptop just over a year. HP won't even talk to me without a charge since my warranty is out. I was told it needs a new motherboard and have bee reading for a couple years at least that hp has know about this default. I'm interested in a class action suit.

It's hard to take on large corporations. Try and see if you can get some law firm interested. Have all your facts, dates, and data ready before you talk to a firm.
