I'm configuring a Lenovo P520 on their website. I've already configured it with a 1TB Solid State drive. But when I scroll down I see this option . . .
HHHL PCIE Storage Boot Drive
which is default YES, i.e. I can't UNselect it. Below that is
HHHL PCIE Storage
...which is default "Intel 480GB Solid State Drive, HHHL, AIC, PCIe-NVMe"
I can't UNselect that either except by selecting a more expensive option, namely "Intel Optane 2x480GB Solid State Drive, HHHL, AIC, PCIe-NVMe " for another $920.

So what IS this? If it's a boot drive do they load the OS on it (at 480GB it easily has enough space). Does it show up as a partition or drive letter in Windows 10? Why can't I UNselect it and just boot off the main 1TB solid state drive? I called their sales and they had no idea.

Thanks in advance!

Usually that refers to form factor. "HHHL" = half height, half length. A short, low profile card.

If you have any technical ability at all, consider ordering only the minimum amount of ram, namely 8gb.
They charge $245 for 16gb, $465 for 32gb ddr4 2666 speed.
You can buy that same ram for $75 or $150 respectively.

Ditto on the storage.
For example, they charge $450 for a 1tb sata ssd.
A top quality samsung 860 evo is $140.
