The UN must make reducing salt intake a global health priority, say UK scientists. Writing in the British Medical Journal they say a 15% cut in consumption could save 8.5 million lives around the world over the next decade.

Makes perfect sense, as salt and blood pressure rise is interlinked. Although this is the first time I've seen scientists actually wanting it to be prioritized in this way.

The researchers say there is a "consistent, direct relation between salt intake and blood pressure". High blood pressure in turn is linked to heart disease, stroke and kidney problems. They point to the US, where cutting salt intake by a third would save tens of thousands of lives and save up to $24 billion annually in health care costs.

I completely agree with the UN.

Everything in the USA is too salty. Ever eat a hot dog without the bun, ouch. Then you add ketchup, mustard, relish, etc, all loaded with more salt. Same with lunch meat, cheese, everything you can think of.

I don't use salt very often.... sometimes a little bit on hash browns.

But if we ever have to start cutting Black Pepper, I swear I am gonna rage and end it all ;-)
My friends make fun of me cuz I dump almost the entire shaker of pepper on scrambled eggs. mmmmmmm
