Probably overheating and shutting down.

Let things cool off. Carefully apply thermal paste per the instructions in this forum.

And hope that the heat did not destroy something.

Yep I removed the cpu cooler to see if the corsair would work. I know I need a little thermal to put on it out after I installed it it was in but has some play in it wouldn't matter it was on it good and now just turns on then off even after sitting for a hour two

Without the proper cooling things get very hot very fast.....

Not comfortable with "some play".

I suggest that you start over and carefully reinstall everything.

A fully planned proper installation would be the best option here.
