Hi Tom. I have a Gateway laptop with Windows 7 and a disc-drive that used to play Blu-Ray. Now it says "No disc in Drive D" when I insert a Blu-Ray disc. Regular movies play fine. I updated to Cyberlink 11 and also downloded the patch. No go!

Any suggestions?

Thanks.

Mike

The diodes really aren't replaceable, by the user or by a repair shop. If it's really the diode (or, in fact, anything else wrong with the drive) then the recourse is to replace it with a new drive - that will be cheaper than any attempt at repair.
If DVDs play OK then it's possible that the blue laser diode in the drive has burned out. There are different lasers in the drive to read BluRay vs. DVD discs, and when the drive gets old it's pretty common for one of them to die before the other, rendering the drive capable of playing only one type of disk.

Is this a BluRay burner? Burners are a lot harder on the laser diodes because they have to run at a much higher intensity when writing.

I am not sure. I have used it to CD-ROM Drive to copy music from CD"s but never a movie of either type. The laptop is only about 1 year old.

Can a civilian replace the diode? Or should I take it inot the store for repair?

Thanks
