Cyrix 333

I have a question regarding a Cyrix 333. The recommended speed settings are 75 x 3.5. My Motherboard can only go to a 3x multiplier and can go to 83mhz. Can I run it at 83 x 3 or should I run it at 75 x 3.

Cyrix cpu? I feel for you, dude (shakes head). I say, give it a try, if it dies, all the better for you! go pick up a $55 Amd K6-2 from www.pricewatch.com.

you should be able to run it at 83mhz fsb. 75 *3.5 is like 262, 83 * 3 is 249, you'll be underclocking the proc(trust me, its a good idea with Cyrix) and raising the fsb for faster memory operation and such.
you should match 75 * 3.5 if not outperform it.

Your board should make 3.5 multiplier, it just don't know it yet. Put jumpers to 1.5x multiplier - it works as 1.5x for pentium 100 , and as 3.5 x for Pentium MMX 233. You may also wire up the BF2 pin to get x4 up to x6 multipliers.

Thanks for your help. I do not know where the BF2 pin is. My Que manual shows a BF1 and a BF pin. Is BF the same as BF2? And what do I wire it to?

TIA

Huh? first time EVER I hear it's a good idea to underclock a processor... And cyriz processors need every little mhz they can get! ;)

What i meant is that if your board don't have Bf2 settings you can solder a wire to CPU leg that has bf2 signal. (Only non-intel socket 7 cpus might have it). You have to look at CPU pinout chart .

All i can offer you is the truth. Nothing more.

Or, you could get a K6-2 450, set the mobo at 75 and the multiplier at 2x. The processor will interpret this to mean 6x, and viola! A 450MHz upgrade for a grand total of $45 (including shipping)! Check Picewatch!
