So i have looked around A LOT and couldn't find anything that fixed my problem of D drive marked as system, so this is my last resort before i completely reinstall windows (which i don't want to do). 🙁

I currently have a SSD as my C drive with windows 10 installed and a 2tb hard drive as a secondary, and not so long ago when i tried to back up my pc it said i couldn't back it up to my D drive as it was a system drive (which it is not it has absolutely nothing on it even system files like bootmgr, and it has never said it was a system drive before) i looked on my disk management and it said that it was primary partition and that was it, system reserved has the system and active tag.

My PC still boots fine even when D drive is unplugged and i think it boots faster when it is unplugged (feels like the system is waiting for d drive to launch seeing as it is marked as system but like i said before couldn't see any system files on d drive). Also when i try to go in boot repair or what ever it is called i get an error saying that it couldn't be completed.

I think i did accidentally change my d drive to active recently but changed it back immediately once i knew what i did. That is all i know of what i did that could have effected this in some way if you need any more info PLEASE ask because i would like to back up my PC with out any trouble or work around.

Motherboard - Gigabyte G1 sniper Z5s
CPU - i5 4670K
SSD - Sandisk SDSSDHII240G
HDD - ST2000DM001-1CH164

The HDD must have some boot sector tracks written to it. Or you installed Windows to the SSD and forgot to unplug the HDD while doing so; allowing the boot record to possibly be written to the HDD. Or is it possible the HDD had an OS on it previously that never was erased completely? Just doing a quick format to a previous boot drive doesn't always erase the boot sector.

My HDD did have a os on it before I got my ssd. But I never had this problem until I think the recent big windows 10 update (had my HDD connect at that point) I think I also had my HDD connect when I installed windows 10 on my ssd. Is there anyway to fix this problem or do I have to reinstall windows to fix it?

Also if this helps at all I can temporarily get rid of it saying that it is a system hdd by deleting the HDD then formating it, at least until it is shutdown for a bit of time or I restart.

You mean if you do a full format on the HDD, the problem returns after the next boot or so?!

Well, quick formatting doesn't erase anything except the directory. Do a FULL format where new tracks and sectors get written to the disk.

Well i did a FULL format in disk management and still not allowing me to backup to D drive. Though my Intel Rapid Storage Technology says its not a system disk but my windows backup still thinks it is.

I guess you stumped me. Unless it is a bug in the Win Backup app.Does Disk Management show it as a system disk?

It doesn't show up as a system disk in Disk Management so seeing as all you can think that it could be is a bug, which really sucks for me, i am going to reset this pc seeing as it gets rid of settings and reinstall windows and hope for the best, i have a copy of c drive as is so i won't lose to much just i will have to reinstall all my programs.

But thanks for all your help i greatly appreciate it.
