Question D-Link DFE530-TX

I'm trying to install an old network PCI card (a D-Link DFE530-TX) to an old PC (Emachines 740 running XP home edition SP3).

I stupidly didn't read that instructions that say "install drivers before installing the card" and installed the card first! I'm now finding that when Windows does a search for the drivers, it says it can't find anything suitable, even if I point the XP folder on the drivers CD.

I've tried a total uninstall and then install the CD and then reinstall the card. I've tried the latest drivers. I can't find any way to get Windows to install the drivers! The drivers install runs without issue, although it doesn't seem to make any attempt to find the card.

I need to find a way to diagnose why Windows doesn't think the drivers in the drivers folder are suitable. All the files are clearly there! Does XP Home Edition require different drivers to Pro?
thanks!
