So I've got myself a new rig running:
  • X570-Plus TUF (WiFi) Motherboard (running the latest version of bios - 1201)
  • Ryzen 7 3700X
  • Radeon RX 5700
  • 16 GB of HyperX's Predator RGB 3600 MHz Memory (Dual Channel)
  • Kraken X52 AIO Cooling
  • Cooler Master 550W Gold Rated PSU
  • Samsung 970 Evo Plus 250GB M.2 for running my system
  • Samsung 860 QVO 1TB for everyting else
And I'm trying to get my memory to run at it's rated speed (3600MHz). Now, I should say I've got NO experience in overclocking/messing with RAM. I've seen a few videos and read few articles that said it's as easy as enabling X.M.P. and continuing with your day. But it's not that easy, is it? I had little trouble figuring that on ASUS' boards X.M.P. is called D.O.C.P but never mind that. There are 2 profiles in there - on set to 3606 MHz, and the other set to 3000 MHz. I selected that first profile with the higher clock speed but it just wouldn't boot. I reverted the option and gave up, but now I'm interested in how to do it and honestly I'd like for my memory to run a bit faster than 2400 MHz (or is it 2600 MHz... I forgot :p).

Is it one of these?

  1. Kit of two modules: Total Capacity: 16GB (2x8GB)
  2. Single modules: Total Capacity: 8GB (1x8GB) (two of these)
Ryzen 7 3700X
Supported memory: DDR4-3200
http://www.cpu-world.com/CPUs/Zen/AMD-Ryzen 7 3700X.html

Memory parameters can be set manually or by enabling DOCP.
It's a kit of 2 8GB sticks.

EDIT: I guess I messed up when buying the RAM since I got 3600 MHz instead of 3200 MHz. I found this seemingly good tutorial on YouTube but now I'm wondering what should I change in the calculator to atone for the difference in memory clock speed?

What BIOS version is on your MB, now ?
Older versions might not be as compatible with high speed RAM.

What exact Model number is your RAM ?
Your motherboard does support RAM up to 4400 , so you should be able to get your RAM to run at 3600 If it is a model that is compatible with your motherboard.

I personally would advise you to choose the DOCP Profile for 3600 but then manually set the Memory Frequency to 2933 and if it boots change it to 3200 and if that will boot try 3400 and again if that boots try 3600.
I would also manually set FCLK to 1/2 the RAM speed (aka for 2933 you choose 1467 MHz, for 3200 you choose 1600 Mhz, etc. etc.)
