I'm backing up PC to external hard drive. How do I free up space on D: after backup is complete? Am I doing this right?

Backups are second copies of something. If you delete a file from D: and do another backup to pickup new files, you will lose the deleted file on the backup.

You free up space on a drive by deleting things.
