D1 or M0 stepping?

Hi again.
Okay I have decided to get 3.2c. But when i checked at the intel website, it shows only 3.0c has MO stepping. 3.2c has max D1 stepping. Could you pls tell me which i should go for? And can you recommend me a good cooler?

The other thing is how do I buy the right processor. I do not suppose that all this information is going to be labeled on the processor. And if i buy the box version, what is the information to look out for? And how is FC-PGA2 different from the normal version?

I tried searching at intel, but after 30 mins I had so many pages opened and lost myself in that. 🙁

So i'm here to get it simple and straight.

Only some of the 3.2 Prescotts have MO stepping. The chip you want is the 3.0C - SL7BK. That and a Zalman 7000 Al/Cu will get you where you want to go. Unfortunately, unless you get lucky the "MO" CPU's are hard to find. Good luck.

So that means 3.0C MO stepping is better than 3.2C D1 ?
I have a pc3200 kingston ram at cls 3. Would it affect the overclocking?
Also could you tell me how to read the markings on the processor?
Your help is much appreciated.

Truth be known, yes, I would rather have a MO 3.0 than a D1 3.2. It doesn't mean that the D1's are bad, hell I'm running one, it just means that MO is the best stepping for the 2.8 - 3.0C range CPU. You will find those markings on the heatshield and the retail box. You could even look for a 2.8C like <A HREF="http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&category=80143&item=6750215011&rd=1" target="_new">this.</A> No, that Cas 3 Kingston will not overclock your Northwood sufficiently. I wouldn't settle for anything less than DDR-500 speeds.
