OK I am sick and tired of messing about with the Guardian: I know what
needs to be done, but I can't do it (after playing the damn thing over and
over and over and over again). I wind up at that level with 8 BFG charges
and plenty of other ammo/health and still can't do it, after at least
thirty tries. I don't know WTF iD was thinking about when they came up
with that dumbass concept, but it's a real disappointment in an otherwise
excellent game.

Is there a cheat available to get me past the Guardian?

iD, pull yer damn head out!

Type god in at the console and you can't die.
Before doing that you can try switching skill level. Whatever you're
playing now try lowering it. To do that type in g_skill 0 (0 equals
recruit level difficulty).
I had read the tips on defeating the Guardian before first facing it, so
I just didn't find it that difficult. All of the boss battles: run,
hide, take your time, don't panic. Go to sprint mode and find where
all the power ups are, keep sprinting and moving behind the corner
structures. Wait for the seekers to come to get you.

I beat this one fair and square only once and that was on nightmare
level. When you use the BFG and shoot at the seekers, a single shot
will kill all three seekers at once if they are close together. The
green plasma ball will connect to all three at once and they die. The
Boss Guardian then stops and looks like its trying to cough up a hair
ball with the light on his back turning pink. Shoot the pink with the
BFG. Took about three times to do this before it falls over and dies.

If you just want to get past this part to get to the next, type into
the console

trigger trigger_GuardianDeath

and the death scene will play and you'll get the soulcube and better
yet, you get to move on to the next part of the game.

Spoilers below - read only if you wanna

Sorry you are having so many problems. There are several ways to cheat your
way through it by using console commands e.g. 'god' for invincibility.

I just finished that level and I was able to do the boss by using a slightly
altered method than mentioned here by most people. Most say to shoot the
blue orb above his head with BFG or rockets and then switch to chain gun or
shotgun to take out the 3 seekers that appear each cycle and then rinse and
repeat.

I tried that method and didn't like it one bit. Toggling between the weapons
pissed me off. The shotgun was useless because the seekers stayed out of
range where it was useful. The seekers move from side to side and always
seemed to avoid most of my chaingun shots and it took like 5 seconds to take
out one seeker.

Then I noticed that in the room with the Guardian there are 6 large rocket
packs and the rocket launcher is my favourite weapon. 1 Rocket blast = 1 or
2 dead seekers. So my strategy was as follows:

1. Use rocket launcher and nothing but rockets and keep 'em coming.
2. Enter the portal that takes you to the Guardian.
3. He is vulnerable right at the start - see the blue orb above his head and
rocket it like hell.
4. Three seekers appear. Rocket the shite out of 'em. Just be sure that the
last one you waste is when you have the Guardian lined up.
5. You may have to take some minor evasive action during 4 as the Guardian
moves toward you.
6. Repeat steps 3,4,5
7. Jump with joy as that slack jawed Guardian my wise and beautiful friend bites the dust like a
sack of ...

I have tried this method several times and have been successful in anywhere
from 2 to 3 cycles of the blue orb and I always finished the level maxed out
on rockets - not that that helps since like when you entered Hell, you lose
all your weapons (except the Soul Cube) again when you leave Hell, but then
life's a bitch.

Cheers,
Tim

its not that hard, i had a little trouble with him too, just keep at it and
youll nail him eventually

in fact, i think i used the 90 rounds of rockets i had on him, eventually it
worked!

lol, maybe you and I played the same game. Once I knew how to defeat the
Guardian I got him first time, previously I ran out of ammo, killed myself
by overloading the BFG several times before I realised that was why I was
dying (as there is no "boom" that you might expect with an overloading
weapon, just a "splat"). I thought he went down a bit too easily.

How to below. Only read if you need to. Point is the frustraton is supposed
to be part of the game.

When you enter the arena to your left there is free-standing wall. The space
between it and the surrounding wall at its end is somewhere where the
Guardian will not go. But first sprint around the areana and get the rockets
and and medic kits. Sprint back to the wall are mentioned. Now whilst there
keeping an eye on the Guardian, kill the Seekers. The Guardian now stops,
open his back and produces more Seekers. In doing so he produces a blue
bulb-like light. Aim to hit that blue light. Keep killing the Seekers and
rocketting the blue light. Pretty soon he dies.

On that same topic,
trigger tim_target_endlevel_1
invokes all the end-of-level operations, such as saving the game, and sets
up for the next level.

I still haven't gotten to Hell, though I did try to play the level. I
prefer to write the game-play, behavior logic and functions and watch the
automotons perform, rather than play the games. I'm not that good at it.
If it weren't for McGrandpa, I'd say I was too old!

IF you want to skip a level, go here to find out. Plus there's a
walkthrough that's pretty good.
