Daemon tool virus, how to know if I there are spy wares on my computer?

Hi all:


My idiot brother installed daemon tool on my computer, though I carefully unchecked all the toolbars and "search result sharing" softwares. some of them such as the PC optimizer still manged to "slip" into my OS. I would like to know if there are any ways I can check for virus or spywares on my computer, even if I unintentionally gave permission to these search result sharing software to be installed on my computer.


I'm freaking out right now, Although I have uninstalled the daemon tool and all the other softwares via control panel, I have OCD and I can't stand having the thought of some of the software are still on my computer.
Is there anyway I can be sure that there aren't any spyware on my computer?


and seriously, if you are someone who uses other people's personal computer, keep your hands off installing button, you don't touch another man's baby if it's not yours. gosh.

No nothing you do short of a complete reformat will assure you that no unwanted software is on your computer. This is a good time to think of a backup solution. I recommend Acronis True Image. Makes recovery so much easier.

In the future give the admin account an easy password (or hard if you want too), create a standard user account for yourself. In most cases spyware will require admin permission to install. if you get the prompt it's a good heads up.

how accurate is anti virus softwares such as avira or spybot SnD?
I just did a scan and found a whole bunch of "click" wares with Spybot snd, but nothing turn up with avira.
but i wonder if these softwares can detect spywares that I gave permission to installed?

The truth is there are no hard numbers on how accurate antivirus/antimalware can be. What spybot is seeing that Avira is not could just be false positives.

Just going from personal experience, back when I did virus removal for a well known retailer (don't wanna say who) I would have to run 2-3 of them on top of spybot SnD. And even then I would sometimes get PC's back. After a while I started recommending backup/restores for every virused PC I got.
