Hi, I'm looking for information on the running cost of a drum scanner -
particularly the 'Dainippon Screen DT-S1030AI desktop'. I did a search on
this particular model to no avail. All I know of it so far is that it
doesn't run on Mac OSX.

My main concerns are the costs of replacement parts like drums and bulbs -
how long do these last before replacement, does it need constant servicing?

Can anyone here help, or direct me to a relevant site or forum?

Many thanks.

Any drum scanner will be costly to maintain.

The technology is dated and support is disappearing.

That's why they sell for cheap on eBay.

Their heyday was in the late 1980s and early 1990s.

There are really only one or two manufacturers left,
most stopped production years ago.

A drum could cost you $1500 new, $500 refurbished..
or if you're lucky, $200 on eBay.

If there's a problem with the PMTs, you might as
well throw it away. (A PMT assembly for a
ScanMate 5000 is around $4000, or so I was told.)
