Hi everyone,

I've looked around and haven't gotten a solid answer for this yet. What i am trying to do is to use my Asus PA279Q and daisy-chain another Asus (DVI) monitor to it. I am using a passive displayport to dvi adapter but i cant get my computer to recognize it. So at this point I am not sure if i have to use an Active Displayport to DVI adpater or if it just isn't possible to use an adapter and it has to be Displayport to Displayport.

I have MST turned on in my monitor and my graphics card is a R9 290x

Any ideas?

Thank you.

Hello... Avoid adaptors when ever possiable for any situation.
Basically they contain the same Digital signals/pins from your Video card.
But Display port also has Audio pins... And Basically an adaptor will need to connect the Video Pins together. If you have a multi-meter and Pin out for your Graphic Card and Display Port cable, it would be easy to find out in a few minutes, If the adaptor was at fault... But alot of adaptor makers can't seem to get it right... AND the DVI cables/connectors have Variants, and there are Different Display Port Revisions.
The price of Straight cable will be cheaper than an Active Displayport to DVI adapator?

But any Experienced Wiring Technician would not be able to give you " a solid answer "... To actually know what you have in hand with Parts, and say they should " Work " OR " Should Not Work " together. B )

Thanks.

Guess I'll just have to try another passive adapter and see if that works and if it doesn't try and active one. I don't know enough to actually do anything else.

Hello... Are you just trying to "clone" duplicate" the Screen? or Output from the Video card?
I don't understand why you need to "daisy chain" them or if i understand your meaning there of?
Try Using HDMI outputs from your Video Card card instead?
Try Using HDMI and Display port might be a better choice for an adaptor use here? because they are closer related Signal/connector types.

You cannot daisychain DP full stop with an adapter. You can daisy chain Thunderbolt with the last screen using a DVI connector but that's because TB is two separate streams so the OS sees it as two separate DP connections.
