I have a PC which currently has the front panel HDD LED connected to the motherboard for the hard drive attached to the motherboard.

I've just purchased a 2-port hardware RAID controller which provides header connectors for each disk for the front panel HDD LED.

I want to daisy-chain the motherboard HDD LED output with the two outputs from the RAID card so that disk activity on any of the two RAID drives and the existing drive attached to the motherboard will illuminate the front panel HDD LED.

I can't find any kind of cable that will allow me to do this - and I don't seem to be able to fomulate a search query for the internet - I've looked for splitter cables and daisy-chain cables and I'm finding tons of Fan splitters and RGB LED splitters but nothing suitable for my purpose.

It seems to me that this must be a common requirement so I am struggling to know why I am having such problems finding a solution.

Can anyone advise:
  • Is there any reason why I should not be able to do this?
  • Where I can get a suitable cable from?
Many thanks.

Solution
The requirement being that disk activity on any disk drive be "viewable" via the single front HDD LED - correct?

Probably doable via a custom wiring harness that would accept the three HDD LED outputs and then just send one pair of wires to the front panel HDD.

Pinouts certainly matter and I do not know how the front panel HDD LED would respond if all disks are active at the same time. Voltage, current?

What do you really want to know about the drive(s) activities?

I am only asking because a single HDD LED activity indicator is probably not going to be particularly useful. Just flashing more and maybe even so much as to appear constantly on.

Overall, you most likely need to know more about each drive as a separate entity.

A software solution may prove more applicable.

Google words and phrasing such as "monitor hdd raid disk drive led activity"

Update your post to include more about your requirements. Also update your post to include full system hardware specs and OS.

I am going to move your post over to Storage.
