Damage and item destruction

When you get hit by a lightning bolt or something like that, does item
destruction happen first, or do you get damaged first? IMHO the only
case this would be interesting in, would be where you have an AoLS, low
health, no resistance or immunity, and get hit by some bolt or a
vortex. Would you live, or would the AoLS break before you die?

I can't answer your actual question, but something nasty that could
happen even if HP damage is applied before item damage is that you get
hit by a lightning bolt, your AoLS gets destroyed, the bolt hits the
wall behind you, rebounds, hits you again and kills you.

Neither can I. I have been blasted with acid by an AKW before now though,
having my AoLS destroyed, but I can't recall if I got hurt first or if
the amulet was destroyed first. Maybe Gozer can tell you with his recent YAVP :)

Even so, it might not matter. Imagine this - "You are engulfed by the roaring
flames! Your blessed amulet of life saving is destroyed! You die..."

IIRC, death always takes place at the END of a turn of action, no matter what
else happens first. Not certain about that though.

"You die..." is always the last thing you see because it is always the
last thing your character experiences. You get no information on what
happens after your death. If you did, you might see; "The goblin hits
you! You die... The goblin steps on your corpse. You become enraged! The
goblin starts to consume your corpse." etc.

😉

Well, obviously... but still, I'm not sure what precedence it takes in
terms of other actions. Ever killed yourself with a bouncing magic missile?
It can bounce again and again, hitting you MANY more times, even once your
HP are below zero. It's possible you could be reduced to negative health
and have that certain special spoily item destroyed afterwards, then die
I guess, if it all happened in one turn. It needs testing really, but it
won't be easy to test.

Sometimes accidents happen. I opened a door, and it was booby trapped.
It exploded. My robe got destroyed (more) Before pressing space on
the more prompt I looked at my HP. It said -10. Oh boy. I pressed space.
My quarterstaff got destroyed. I died... (more).

So now you know. First equipments goes away and you die next.

brojek.
