A mithril warhammer of devastation (+2, 6d3+9) (unpaid, 3496gp) (48s) is lying here.
Not a very devastating damage dice. Why is it so low?

Perfectly normal. A mithril warhammer is (+0, 2d3+3) normally, and then
"of devastation" gives +4 damage dice, +6 damage.

Something like an eternium mace, base (+0, 2d6+8), would be much more
deadly if it had the "of devastation" suffix.

Or a "wicked staff of smiting of devastation" if the game let named weapons
have the prefixes and suffixes - that would do 8d37 + 8 damage - that's
somewhere between 16 and 296 damage each round before modifiers... Alas, I
can but dream...

Being realistic the best non-artifact weapon the game could generate would
be a "wicked large eternium warhammer of devastation" (I think that's
possible - I may be wrong) - 9d10 + 16 damage - it would on average cause
about 8.5 points of damage per hit more than the ToTRR (though obviously
without having the Mana and slaying bonuses) and could of course be
dual-wielded. *drools* Of course, the chances of a large eternium warhammer
having this combination of suffixes and prefixes is 1 in 48000 if you're
level 50, but it's likely to happen to someone at some point...

It doesn't. Daggers of deaths, whips of the snake, maces of destruction,
none of that kind of thing can get any ego modifiers.

I think that would be possible. See this page:

http://www.stud.ntnu.no/~houeland/adom/
In particular, the "Wishing for eternium spears" link.

IIRC, they wished for 50000, and amongst the results are:
4 wicked eternium spears of devastation (+2, 6d11+14)

Because of that "+9"?

I think the wicked eternium two handed sword of penetration would be
better. ISTR a post where a guy found one on his second move in the SMC
and wielded it until he won the game. Dual wielding wicked eternium
spears of penetration would be pretty sweet as well.
