Damage question

Ran across a creature in the MM that does 1d3-2 damage for a sting
attack and 1 pt of damage for a bite attack. So here's my question,
Huh? 1d3-2 will do 0-1 pt of damage, yes? the book states you can never
do less than 1 pt of damage. Am I missing something? And then to
confuse the situation more, the bite attack has a flat 1 pt of damage,
why not the same thing for the sting attack? I know I'm spending waayyy
too much time thinking about this, but it bugs the daylights outta me.

Entries like this are for the case where a spell (or the DM) enlarges
the creature or makes it stronger. Cast a bull strength spell on this
vermin and it will do 1d3 damage. If you instead just said "1" for
damage, what to do when the creature gains 5 points to strength? For
the most part all these creatures do 1 damage all the time.

Well you didn't state the creature (pseudo-dragon perhaps), but
is the -2 from its str of 6 or 7? If so, then if you Bull's
Strength it up to 10, its sting would be 1d3 (with no minuses).
I think the flat 1 stays 1 for the bite in that case.
