Hello guys,
I just received the MSI Radeon R9 290. I installed the GPU but at first my computer would not recognize it. I saw the fans of the cards were running so I thought the card was adequately powered. An hour later, I was still trying to figure out how to get my PC to recognize the new GPU.
I looked inside the computer again and this time, with better lighting, noticed that I did not plug in enough power to the GPU. The GPU has 6-pin and 8-pin PCI-E power ports. The problem was although I plugged in 6-pin connector to 6-pin port but also plugged in 6-pin connector into the 8-pin port. In other words, the GPU was not adequately powered. I added the additional 2-pin connector into the 8-pin port and it worked. My computer recognized the GPU after that point.
My question is, did running the PC for a while (1-2 hours) with 6-pin connector in the 8-pin port of GPU damage/affect the GPU or other components in any way?
Thanks in advance!
