Damaged GPU with power

I'm building my first pc right now, and I know that I should have the power off when working on it. The problem is that I plugged in the power, and then just let it stay. I plugged in the PCIe power cable in the GPU, and it came a small "explotion" sound and some electisity. Now the GPU wont work (lights and fan is not working). Have i damaged the GPU? And how can I use it again, if I can? Sorry for my bad english.

Yeah, definitely sounds like you damaged it, that's exactly why you don't play around inside the computer case while it's still powered on.
