Damaged Hard Drive

I am trying to access files from a Hard drive that will not boot up due to some problem in the drive I believe. I am using another drive as the master and want to try to use the damaged drive as a slave to move the files from the damaged drive. So far I cannot get the other drive to start up. I have removed the clip to make the original drive a slave. I have XP recovery disks that came with the computer. Maybe the problem is more than the drive.

Normally the Jumper Setting is another position on the drive, not removed, but if that is what your drive says. So if the jumper setting is correct (cable select, slave, etc) and it is positioned correctly on the data cable, and getting power, and does not show in disk management, etc, IMO, the drive is dead.
