So a friend gave me a 2012 MacBook Pro with a bad hard drive. I swapped in the HD from my HP Pavilion and everything works fine. Days later I find this dent on the top of the lid, and the screen on the point opposite is damaged.

The center of the "starburst" shape in the third photo is in the exact spot of the dent. Not sure how it happened. :(

Is there any chance that popping the dent back out would let the screen return to normal? How would I check? Any suggestions?

Edit: It's this exact model: MacBook Pro a1278 md102lla

By the looks of it, you're going to have to replace the entire panel and no, rectifying the dent won't return the screen to it's initial state. You sure that the screen wasn't broken prior to today?
