dark monitor

I have a 21" Sony Trinitron, it is either dark as night or washed out when I set the brightness with my video card. It has no control for brightness, just color controls. I know its not my video card because I plugged my laptop into it and still dark. Any suggestions?

OMG

don't set anything to do with colour on your video card UNLESS your monitor does not have the buttons on it.

reset all your video card things to DEFAULT.

then go to your monitor and set the temperature of it. USING THE BUTTONS ON THE MONITOR

this will also make it perfect when switching to other computers as it will effect the MONITORS settings rather than the COMPUTERS settings.


NEVER change the settings on the vid card unless thats the ONLY option.

Well, I am red faced to report after about four hours of myself and Son in Law messing with this monitor. I was benchmarking the vid card last night and my wife walked into the room and said "you want it brighter?" didn't go into the menu and just hit the buttons directly and brightened the screen. I feel like a complete idiot, I kept going into the menu to find the settings and they were actually right there in front of me, geeeez. Now my wife looks at me and smiles, I'm in Hell!!!
