data acquisition applications

"well received in laboratory and data acquisition applications. "

So, used in "laboratory applications" and "data acquisition applications"

Not an "application" like a piece of software.

A lab application might be crunching numbers for a laser experiment, or modeling the workings of a nuclear reactor.
Data acquisition might be capturing and compiling all the phone numbers for a country.

What is crunching numbers? (I don't understand the verb, can you explain it to me. Thanks).

Comparing millions of readings from the output of a laser, based on frequency, power draw, and end result, to possibly determine the specific metal alloy you are testing.

'number crunching' = lots and lots of calculations.
One expression that I didn't understand: power draw, What is it? (Thanks on the replies and helping!!)

power draw = how much electricity is this thing using, right now.

If I turn the knob on the laser up from 7 to 8, do I get better results, or do I melt the test material?

In 2021 personal computer terms...how much power is your PC power supply taking from the wall right now?

Sorry about my English. Can you explain the second sentence in other words so I can see if I understand what you mean:
"Data acquisition might be capturing and compiling all the phone numbers for a country.
What is to capture a phone number and what is to compile phone number?

Phone numbers...

Hundreds of millions of phone numbers, by area code and post code.

I wish to look up all the area codes associated with a post code.

Or....a system in the phone company, acquiring, in real time, every call that is instantiated. Both source and destination.
Who is calling who, and how long the call was.
