Are you 100% sure there is a breach here at the forums ? Don't think so. Well, it might also be possible that the Email address which you gave to Tom's Hardware, was coincidentally sent and used by the scam company. And that happenned to be your email address, even though the ID was unique, and you ONLY gave it to Tom's Hardware ?

It is actually possible in rare cases, but I can't say this for sure. You might also be correct as well, so don't get me wrong. I used to get random SPAM messages intended for other users, who were having very similar email address as mine. I'm not saying this is bound to happen for everyone, but in some rare cases, coincidentally we can also get these scam/spam emails from unknown address.

Did the email had your real username on it though ?

Nonetheless, I highly doubt Tom's Hardware website/company will sell or give our personal Email IDs to third-parties though. Maybe some MOD or the Forum Manager might be able to help you with this, or have a much better answer. But in any case, thanks for the heads-up.
