Hello, I keep getting the same data error cyclic redundancy check while trying to back up onto my external hard drive. I am becoming very frustrated. Please help. Thanks.

The only fix for this it to get a new drive. If it's working enough to get data out of it, do it now before it's totally dead.

Drive errors, even if fixable in software like with a re-format, are never a good thing as they often are a symptom of a timebomb of a hardware failure that's just waiting to go off.

I am having the same problem with my Sims game. First it was an I/O Device Error. I changed the DMA and now it is saying I have a "data error: cyclic redundancy" message. I have no idea what's wrong with the game...

Don't add on to other posts, you need to start a new one. Either disk or DVD drive is bad if this is coming up when it's trying to read the optical disk. Check on another PC to rule out the disk.
