Data Hard-Drive Crashed - Bios see it, Win 7 doesn't

One of my data drives died. I removed the drive so Win 7 would boot. Then put in an external usb dock. Now bios can see it, Win 7 can't. At one point, Win7 installed a driver and told me it needed to be formatted (I didn't - I know better than that). What's the next step to getting my data back?

Try accessing the drive using the LINUX Parted Magic tool: http://linux.softpedia.com/get/System/Operating-Systems/Linux-Distributions/Parted-Magic-21659.shtml

You can put the Parted Magic image onto a USB drive or DVD-ROM. Also, make sure that you have the hard drive attached using one of the motherboard SATA ports and NOT USB port to guarantee the best chance of Parted Magic to work properly.

Most likely a bad sign. Your hard drive may be dead :-(
