data loss in transfer from old HD to new

OK, so I successfully reinstalled W10 onto a new HD to get past the dreaded BSOD I experienced with the old HD. However when I reattached the old HD to the system and attempted to save my 510GB of music files to the new HD, it appeared to transfer fine, but when I tried accessing the files on the new HD, there was only 2GB of files in the folder. When I checked the old HD, it also shows only 2GB of files.

What happened to the other 508GB? I checked the other few folders in the new and old HDs and couldn't find them. Now I'm afraid to transfer anything else like docs or pics for fear of losing them.

If your old hard drive was failing then there is not much you can do.
You can try running check disk on it but that is about it.

This is why you should have a backup of your data.
