Data recovery from wd my passport

My external hdd- a 500 gb wd my passport stopped working after a long time putting it aside. The hdd light is on and I can feel it spinning inside. The problem Is my laptop freezes every time before I'm able to type in the password. I contacted wd support and they say it seems to be a corrupted file system. Is there any way to recover my data in this case?

Take it to a nearest PC shop & swap out the enclosure, chances are that the board is culprit & the hard is ok

The later models, Like the My Book Essential, are encrypted and this will not work.

well sir, its encrypted means its tied to the PCB of the Ebook enclosure, i suggest that u try the first method to see if the drive is really ok first, back a few years we managed a 100% recovery getting a exact same enclosure, now you need to go see a PC repair dude though...

Btw, u can take the hard from the enclosure - it will be standard WD HD, mount it as a drive to the system and see if appears in my computer, the challenge is that encryption which is tied to the PCB of the enclosure
