data retreival

Im looking for an application that can retrieve my data from a laptop hd that cannot be seen in windows (manage) perhaps an app that runs through dos?
Hd waqs making some roaring noises and then stopped working, actually i can hear it work but i cannot see it in windows. Its a Toshiba MK4021 GAS 40gb hd. plz help u guys!!!

Drive is dying.. if it's roaring, put it in a ziplock bag and in the freezer over night.. the next day, pull it out, put it in your computer, fire it up.. you might be 15 minutes to 2 hours to pull any data off it.. that is, if the drive will function. Once it heats up, you'll start hearing that roaring again.

You don't have much of an option outside of a 3rd party company that specializes in this stuff.. and that'll run you close tto $1,000 to get any/all data off.
