Booted windows 10 installation through UEFI, he had an old windows 7 on his computer. I then tried to install but his drive was MBR. While trying to convert through cmd, I accidently used the clean option on his entire drive instead on the partition itself. So now I have drive with unallocated memory. Please give us a step by step list of what you did to end up with this result.
As detailed as you can.
So this 500GB is the only drive involved?I wanted to install only windows 10 on that 500 gb drive. Is there some software I can try to recover the files?
Yes and yes. I am thinking of removing the drive from the laptop and connecting it to my desktop and try to use the stellar data recovery software. So this 500GB is the only drive involved?
And you wanted the end result to be Win 10 only?
If you were installing Win 10, whatever was on there would have been gone anyway.Yes and yes. I am thinking of removing the drive from the laptop and connecting it to my desktop and try to use the stellar data recovery software.
Do you think that's a good idea?
Sorry, but it has to be said...There were lots of documents for a master thesis and work related ones. Some photos too. I have no other choice but autopsy I guess.
Hey, i got lots of the data back, not sure how much of it or if it is corrupted but most of it seems fine so far. I used R-studio recovery program. Took me about an hour and a half to scan the 500 gb drive.Sorry, but it has to be said...
That is 2 levels of fail:
- Having that data residing on only a single drive.
- Not having a backup of the data on it before starting a full OS install.
I checked some of it and most of it is in its original format. The videos and photos seem to have lower quality, but I am not absolutely sure since I didn't watch them for a long time."data back", in what format?
file0001.txt or similar?
