So my current HDD will not boot windows and after troubleshooting this i could not fix so i opted to purchase a new HDD and upgrade with an additional SSD. I was wondering if anyone could point me in the right direction as I need to transfer the files from the old HDD to the new HDD+SSD but I cannot boot windows so how would I go about this. Any help would be appreciated, thanks

Solution

1. You need to install a new OS on a new drive. The new SSD possibly.
2. Obtain a USB docking station
3. Once the PC is all running with the new drive, put the old dead one in the docking station and turn it on.
4. Maybe it will work enough to get some data from it.

Well...That was just a general overview. There's a lot of little steps in between there...

For instance, between Step 1 and Step 2. You're starting off with a blank OS. Full reinstall of the OS, drivers, and applications.
This will take a while.
