Data transfer question

Ok so a friend of mine has had his motherboard blow on him and wants me to recover some data from his 2 ssds. I've heard windows is tied to the mobo it's installed with. Would it be possible to boot his main hardrive with my hardware? Even if it had issues running it would only be for a short amount of time, enough to get the files he needs. Or is there an easier way for data recovery, id like to just boot up my own OS and plug his ssd into my secondary port but in my experiences I've had to format hardrive for them to be recognised. I could install my own drivers and uninstall his current ones if I had to, but if I can work around that it would be ideal.

ANY help with this issue would be greatly appreciated 😀

Solution

OK...wait.
Do NOT try booting it up. That may screw things up.

Just connect it as a secondary drive, not in the boot order. It should appear as just another drive letter.
The adaptor is something I'm definitely going to purchase thanks for the idea I didn't even know they existed. But my friend needs this data for a project due tomorrow morning and no vendors in my city would sell it. I will have to try my luck booting it for now!! See how it goes, thanks for your help :)
