Data transfer

Alright so basically I have broken desktop and I want to know the easiest way to transfer the memory from the desktop to my laptop. The desktop is completely in operable so I know ill prob hav to remove the drive. Also please note I don't won't to by things to get this done, I will only buy things if it is absolutely crucial. Very detailed explanations of what I should do are welcome.

You can't do it without buying anything or at least borrowing something. You need to stick your hard drive in an external enclosure that supports USB, then attach it to your laptop to retrieve the data.

I don't know what your definition of cheap is. You can use a sata dock like this
