[SOLVED] Datto NAS testing?

I was given a retired Datto 4-bay NAS unit from my office since it had been exhibiting intermittent cloud back-up tendencies.

I pulled the two 1TB WD Green drives, wiped them and they tested out fine. I'm using them as external back-up drives elsewhere.

I installed a pair of used WD 500gb Blue drives and then loaded FreeNAS onto the device.

How would you go about thoroughly testing the NAS for consistent reliability before implementing in a home-based NAS?

Is there a stress-test program and/or data transfer that I could implement?

Any ideas?

Solution
WD Green are the actual worst drives you can use in that use case.
They spin down (in an effort to 'save electricity'), and the pause when they spin back up may have been the reason for your original issues.
That's good to know! The office unit was replaced with a new Datto. No idea what drives are in it, but isn't my problem :)

If I decide to implement the device, then I'll likely change out the WD Blue drives to SSDs or maybe enterprise grade HDDs.
