Dcr vx2100 computer will not recognize

I have a Sony DCR VX2100. I have a 6-pin fire-wire port in my computer which works fine with my smaller canon ZR900 but when I plug the Sony in and turn it on the computer does nothing. No acknowledgment at all. Any ideas?

Some cameras need to be put in "USB Mode".
Have you tried that?

Not exactly sure what USB mode is, but I did select "DV out" which I thought might be the problem. That didn't change anything though.

check if you can see it in the "Device Manager"

No, the computer has no idea its there.

There are no drivers on Sony's website.
It says the Operating System should already have them.
So, try it on different computer or try a different firewire port.
Or go into the control panel and try to add it.
