So I have a stock Comcast router. It is not the new modem/router combo, but rather the router and modem are separate. I would like to flash DD-WRT to the Comcast router, but I am not sure whether or not the router is locked or if i can get into any trouble since I think Comcast technically owns the router, and I am only "renting" it. I don't want to brick the router, and to be honest, I was thinking about getting a router upgrade anyway, but since the DD-WRT flash process is tricky, I thought i could at least practice flashing and see if I like the interface. According to the DD-WRT website, my router and hardware version specifically are supported (Netgear WNR1000 v2), but like I said, I don't know if the router is locked or if there's any trouble I could get into with Comcast. Any help is much appreciated. Thanks 😀

Flashing third party firmware will void the warranty so Comcast can get angry abt that.
Its always possible to brick the router during the process.
I dont think that the router is locked but on the other hand i have never seen one that is locked.

It's not the warranty I'm too worried about, I just wanted to make sure Comcast wasn't going to swat my house. And just if this helps at all, I do have friends that were able to flash DD-WRT on a D-Link router from Verizon, and their current provider is still Verizon, which does give me some hint that maybe Comcast wouldn't care, but you never know with Comcast.
