Hi,

I would like to set up the qos on dd wrt with netmask priority but really dont know how to figure it out ,
I don't understand the xxx.xxx.x.x/24 etc.?

I just want to configure 2 ip addresses.
Thanks

Edit: I want to have more stable bandwidth to my smart tv (netflix) . Wired to router + 1 laptop wireless.

I have 120/10 mbps from my isp and yes I could use mac adresses, ip etc but it seems that dd wrt qos has some problems and the best is netmask priority..

Select HTB+FQ_Codel set the download and upload to 80% of your download and upload. Test bufferbloat on dsl reports. You can increase closer to 95% if you keep A+ bufferbloat. Don't worry about trying to configure any classes. Just using this will help netflix. The way fq_codel works any program that opens multiple connections can take it over like Steam or bittorrent. You may need to limit those on the client side.

Only a fairly high end router would be able to handle 110Mbs using FQ_codel. If your router is very old with a weak cpu then it won't work well. The ERX router runs FQ_Codel as well and it's $50 and handles 100-125Mbs. openwrt runs a faster qdisc cake. If fq_codel is slow then that could be worth trying. It does the same...
What two IP addresses do you wish to configure?

Not sure but if you have installed dd-wrt on your router then establishing the desired QoS should be straightforward.

Update your post to explain what you have tried thus far and what happened - e.g., error messages, etc..

Could simply be a configuration error.

Start here:

https://wiki.dd-wrt.com/wiki/index.php/Tutorials

Access Restrictions being the likely section for the specific steps to be done.

QoS is one of the most advanced topics in networks. Not understanding simple subnet mask concept is going to make it even harder.

The simplest method to configure 2 ip addresses is to use 2 statements and a mask of /32 which limits it to that one address.

Hi,

Thanks.

What do you mean by 2 statements?
And with 2 ip, I can add my ip follow by /32 right?
Thanks

For exemple I configured the services priority, like Netflix + netmask ip (tv ip)

When I enable that, speedtest on my cellphone, my cellphone drops 125mbps to 110.. ok fine for this but on speedtest on the tv, nothing happens, same speed..

?

It is highly unlikely QoS will do anything at all on a fast internet connection.

QoS only matters if you have fully used your connection. It decides which traffic goes first. When there is no delays it sends it all immediately since there is no choice to make.

You technically can't prioritize download traffic anyway. By the time your router see traffic it is too late. If they ISP discards the netflix traffic and send the file transfer traffic what can your router do. It can't undelete some data it never received. For upload traffic you can use simple priority but on download you need a much more advanced configuration.

It likely does not matter unless you have a teen living with you running torrents 24x7 it is not likely you are exceeding your download bandwidth so QoS does nothing.

It does the same thing more efficiently plus a few extra features for different types of connections.

No advanced configuration or anything is needed to get this going. Configuring HTB is much more advanced, but not needed. I don't use HTB and I can watch SD netflix, surf the web, and download something with out it buffering on 6Mbs.

I have the netgear R7800.
But with htb+ FQ_CODEL, I'm not sure I understood well, what I need to configure after: I add my ip adresses, mac , services priority ie,: netflix ?
Thanks

Before you keep following this path you need to answer a very important question.

Are you actually exceeding your bandwidth. If not configuring any form of QoS at best will do nothing and could actually cause issues because of the overhead.

.... how can I know if I m exceeding?
🤔🤔

The router has screens that show utilization, been a while since I used DD-wrt so I forget how advanced they are.
With 100mbps internet I would hope you know if you are downloading large amounts of data or not. This is so much bandwidth it is not something that you will use up doing simple stuff like web surfing.

The Tv will never use very much and if you have only 1 other laptop you should be able to check on the laptop.

I suggested previously to try the default. Just set your download and upload speeds to 80% of what yours are. Default does round robin on connections and when you hit the limit it slows down the connections using the most data. With 100Mbs like 10 downloads would have to be happening for netflix to get less than 9Mbs.

I think that router should be able to handle 100Mbs.

If it's setup correctly you should get the speed you set and A+ bufferbloat on dsl reports.
