DDR 4 2133 vs 2400

I know this has been asked and answered before but just wanting reassuring. Currently ddr4 2133mhz is same price as ddr4 2400 . I have i5 6500 and gigabyte z170 gaming 7 on its way. Any reason to purchase 2133 over 2400 or vice versa? 2400 will run 2133 if not over clocking right? Thank you so much

Nope, will be fine with 2400 and will prob run at 2400, the Skylake CPUs have strong MCs (memory controllers) in general 😉

Typically slower RAM will have tighter timings, which is good. But higher speed RAM (usually much higher) will win out.

In reality, unless you are doing crunching programs or CPU heavy rendering, higher speed RAM won't make much (if any) difference with regards to games.

And yes, you can load XMP settings and then set the RAM speed to 2133 instead of 2400 if you so desire.

XMP will set it to 2400, 2133 is the default
