DDR-400 at 400Mhz compatible at 333Mhz?

Hello friends,

I came along with a big confusion because have an very old PC and i want to give another chance to it.

I want to upgrade RAM but i have bought a 512MB DDR-400 at 400MHZ and din't recognize it, so i was searching for a compatible memory but I'm confused now because saw a couple of 400Mhz memorys saying that are compatible at 333Mhz too, so my question is:

Are all DRR-400 at 400Mhz compatible at 333Mhz too? or it depends of the memory?

A PC old enough to have DDR1 is not going to be much good beyond very basic web browsing and office use. It might not even have enough processing power to play 480p YouTube videos.

okay, in general all DDR 400 should be able to clock down to 333 MHZ - BUT DDR1 is the first generation, lots of improvements have been made since that time.

so for your problem, it's quite reasonable that your board is not able to do clean automatic negotiation with the module - it might even be influenced by chip organisation and chips type and module size - i would be able to be more precisely if yout give me some details about the rig and the module 😉
