DDR memory compatibility Mobo/GPU

ohai,

So i get that for example the mobo 'MSI Z77A-GD65' uses DDR3 memory and i can only equip it with DDR3 ramm/dims right.

Now my question is. must my GPU also be matching ? i'm kinda confused there.
i'd like to buy the "PNY GeForce GTX 770 XLR8 OC PCI-E 2GB" wich says it uses
GDDR5-SDRAM.

GPU is completely independent, with independent RAM.

The RAM on the GPU is soldered on the card. No relationship to the Motherboard at all.

That is basically correct. You also have to watch RAM timings and speeds, that the motherboard will support.

Doesn't need anything. There is no relationship between the videocard RAM and the motherboard. The RAM on the videocard is only for the videocard and the Motherboard will not read it.

The RAM on the motherboard is only for the motherboard. If you buy the wrong type of RAM, it won't fit anyway. They don't sell DDR5 RAM though, it's only for videocards.

The motherboard needs a PCI-e x16 slot so the videocard fits. You do need a 500 Watt Powersupply for the videocard to run correctly.
