DDR2 800 - Good ram, bad ram?

You should check the mobo compatibility list (QVL) on the manufacturers website. Then get the RAM that is compatible with the lowest timings. At least post the type of mobo you will be using.

There are differences between manufacturers of the P35 mobos and certainly between P35 and 680i mobos. You would be well served to choose a mobo first before spending time on what RAM to buy.

thank you! hmm, i know im gunna need 4 gb with vista cause its gay... no offense but a memory hogger =[... but will ddr2 DC 800 work with high performance in games? and can i mix diff brand ram? like 2gb corsiar and 2gb patriot, both at ddr2 800???

No offense, but you're gay.... Vista runs quite acceptably with 2 GB ram, unless you run a very memory intensive application like photoshop. And if you use vista 32 (or any 32 bit OS for that matter) then 4GB ram will be a bit of a waste as you will only get access to ~3 GB.

So unless you are into serious overclocking, and extremely memory intensive apps, 2 GB of any value ram will suit any Intel processor and any 32 bit OS. 3 GB ram might make you feel better, and its your money. Get 4 GB if you want, just don't come back posting 'why can't I use all my ram'...

Yes DDR2-800 is perfectly fine.....minimal performance differences between that and 1066

You can mix RAM, it will run at the slowest timings and speed. Technically, with the newer mobos, you can even mix them in dual channel on the same bank with different sizes, although it may get flaky. Stick with the same RAM on each bank at least and the same across the board unless you have some lying around that you want to use. If so, buy the same speed DDR2 667/800/1066, or you money will be wasted.

Thanks, im not mixing them in matching slots tho, i might put 12gb patriot in slots a1 a2 and 2gb corsiar in slots b1 b2 (2x1gb) the reason for this is cause im gunna stick with 2gb unless 4 may be needed in the futer, then i will upgrade, but if the same ram isnt on sales, then i might go with the other to save some cash. but i will be keeping the same speeds.

So i wont be needing any higher than 800 for games?

O, and croc... i already knew that, but ram is cheaper in pairs, it was on sale for less than some ram thats just 1gb same speed and performance, that and i always like to be prepared, epecially b/c im getting 64 bit and can access over 3gb i believe. Dont say **** just cause your life sux, maybe i feel happier with 3 to 4gb, i like to be prepared!

This is a little hard to follow. From what I understand your going with two 1GB sticks and then possibly adding two more later of a different brand. That's fine just try to match the speed and timings as close as possible. If the identical RAM is close in price I would try to get it to avoid any compatibility problems.

DDR2 800 is plenty fast for games, there really is very little to be gained by using DDR2 1066 with the core 2, unless you are increasing the FSB over 1600Mhz. As I said, try to get RAM in the link above for the chosen mobo.

Nope, They had stars that were based on posters ratings. They killed that and went to stars based on the amount of posting, then they killed the stars all together. The stars were BS anyway.
