Hi,

I'm buying a new CPU/Mobo/Ram. I was wondering, with the S939 mobo's does it make sense to use DDR2-533 RAM in it? Is it even possible? Or should I just grab some kingston DDR400?

Thanks

Get the DDR400 - DDR2 would be a waste!

At any given same speed, DDR performs better than DDR2. If you're getting the faster memory for overclocking, I'd just get some Crucial Ballistix PC4000.

AMD doesn't support DDR2.

This confuses me. I dont doubt what your saying but this is what I dont usnderstan. Are you saying that DDR is always a better performer? Price/performance I can see this being the case. What about in the the case of DDR2711 or even 800? Take my ASUS E Premium with the925x chipset. I have been hitting some really high benchmarks with it. Just curious!

At the same speed, DDR is always faster. Latency is lower.

DDR2 is capable of clocking faster in theory. At a certain speed over normal DDR it's higher latencies will be cancelled out by the clockspeed advantage.

I didnt catch what he said at first. I understand now, I was thinking he meant faster period, but now I see where he said at any given speed.

On a seperate note, have you seen some of the latest DDR2 and the low timings that they are now hitting?

Yes thats the one I was thinking of. I wish that I would have bought OCZ. This Crucial Ballistix is some really fast stuff, but It has a small sweet spot when you get up to the really fast speeds. I recorded 2 really good benchmarks, but now I cant duplicate them because I didnt write the settings that I was using at the time. That is frustrating.
